We offer StableCare for any kind of micromobility vehicle (this includes self-powered bicycles) that can be securely locked up to a bike rack or other immovable object. We specifically offer theft protection for electric scooter owners who currently can't get theft protection from existing insurance companies. Some vehicles may not qualify if their design does not allow for secure lock-up to a bike rack or other affixed, immovable object. See our Terms and Conditions for more details.

No, parking at Stables is not required. We encourage members to park at Stables because it increases the probability of available security camera footage in the event of a theft. The presence of security cameras can also deter thieves entirely.
Security camera footage would also help if you forget to log parking. The footage can be useful evidence to prove that you locked up your ride, and that the thief defeated your lock to steal your vehicle, which would ensure your claim is processed successfully. -
StableCare only cover theft, robbery, and burglary. StableCare Membership benefits do NOT include repairs, liability, or other coverage. If Members can provide receipts and costs of accessories, those may be included in theft protection through membership, subject to Stable approval.

Currently, we cover thefts that occur when your vehicle is properly locked up to an immovable object with one or more of an approved set of locks. Immovable object means an object that cannot be broken by force, unscrewed with common tools, or otherwise defeated without requiring the same tools to cut the immovable object in the same way as an approved lock. If a thief picks, cuts, or otherwise defeats your lock, or cuts the immovable object, you are eligible for reimbursement. We also cover theft that occurs due to burglary or robbery, subject to our Terms and Conditions.
Members are required to log parking (only takes a few seconds) every time they lock up their ride. Logging parking makes it easy to prove to us that you did your part to mitigate the possibility of theft. We strongly encourage (but don’t require) members to find and park at Stables as much as possible, which improves your chances at getting security camera footage in the event of a theft—making it essentially irrefutable that you fell victim to a theft and are not trying to commit fraud.

The short answer is no: getting reimbursed is not a guarantee.
Traditional insurance might claim to offer "guaranteed" payouts, but anyone who has had to submit insurance claims before will know that this is far from reality. Most insurance policies have tons of fine print that give the insurance company many technicalities they can use to deny your claim. Even when you technically satisfy their requirements, you still need to provide evidence to prove your claim, putting you at the mercy of the company to decide whether they believe you or not (the same company that directly benefits by profiting off of denying your claim).
StableCare is not a guarantee, but it is a fair process meant to make Members happy and whole while addressing the key issue that would hurt Members: fraud. Any guarantee to pay out every claim would encourage fraud, which would drive up fees for Members. What we instead aim to do is to detect and limit fraud through the Stable app as an evidence gathering tool.
By regularly using the Stable app, Members are automatically providing important context that can help prove their claim and help us detect fraud. Stable will review all context to a Member's claim and issue the Member a decision explaining how the context provided by the Member contributed to the decision. Members are encouraged to seek video evidence as irrefutable proof to ensure a claim is accepted. -
Members who regularly use the Stable app to log parking and map Stables are less likely to commit fraud because of the effort involved in doing so. Theft is a crime of opportunity, and so it is less likely for a thief to spend months logging parking and mapping stables before attempting to defraud us.
When someone falls victim to a theft, they will be required to file a police report. Filing a false police report is a crime, so any member who tries to commit fraud will be putting themselves at serious risk.
We always look into the context of the situation. How long has the victim been a member? How many times have they logged parking? Did they park at a Stable? Do they have evidence of how the lock was defeated? Were they able to get video proof of the theft? We consider all of these factors and more initially before we issue an opinion about whether we agree to process the claim or not.

Sold Secure recently changed its bicycle standard to pedal cycles and changed its motorcycle standard to powered cycle to include electric powered vehicles like e-bikes, e-scooters and other PEVs.
StableCare Diamond requires Sold Secure Power Cycle Diamond rated locks which are resistant to angle grinder attacks. Eligible locks include the Litelok X1, Litelok X3, and Hiplok D1000.
Any locks that meet Sold Secure Pedal Cycle Gold, Sold Secure Pedal Cycle Diamond, and Sold Secure Power Cycle Gold qualify for StableCare Gold membership tier. To view a list of approved locks, click here.
